Being without cell service in 2024 is MAJOR!

Verizon — and its roughly 114 million subscribers — started the week fairly rough, with a massive outage affecting a large portion of its mobile phone customers.

"Verizon engineers are making progress on our network issue and service has started to be restored. We know how much people rely on Verizon and apologize for any inconvenience some of our customers experienced today. We continue to work around the clock to fully resolve this issue," a spokesperson for the tech giant told CNN on Monday.

According to DownDetector, many people began to experience issues with their cell service beginning around 11 am ET.

Many people expressed that their phone was stuck in "SOS" mode and wouldn't function properly.

According to Apple, the SOS message appears when "your device isn't connected to your cellular network," but you can make emergency calls via satellite.

"When SOS appears in your iPhone status bar, it means a cellular network is available for emergency calls," the company says.

If you make a call while the phone is in SOS mode, your call will go to a local emergency number and their location will be shared with emergency services.
