Jean shorts (aka Daisy Dukes) are a summer staple. The more tattered, the better, whether you bought them that way or took scissors to an old pair of jeans and started hacking away. Not only can they can make your legs look longer and leaner, they go with everything -- and holes, rips and exposed pockets are welcomed and encouraged.

Jennifer Aniston, the queen of Cali casual, and Kate Upton, among others, recently demonstrated the many ways to work this trend.

Jennifer Aniston:

The actress paired her destroyed shorts (complete with exposed pockets) with a nautical thick-stripe top and flip flops while filming in NYC. The onetime 'Friend' balanced a raggedy hem with a voluminous top for the perfect combination of cheap and chic.

Kate Upton:

The bodacious model represented the Everygirl of summer with a pair of jean shorts quite similar to Aniston's. Kate's were battered, tattered and wrecked, but so perfect and totally casual for summer.
