Jennifer Lopez Style Breakdown – What’s Right, What’s Wrong, and How to Fix It
Jennifer Lopez is a glamazon. She's rarely seen dressed super casually or sans heels -- with J. Lo, life is a red carpet. But even when she does dial it down, she is decidedly high-end. Hers is a closet to envy.
Lopez is a quadruple threat -- singer, actress, dancer, designer -- and her best accessory these days is her boyfriend, 20-something dancer Casper Smart. Here she looked flawless in a hot pink frock that highlighted her always glowing, perpetually bronzy skin. The black clutch and knuckle ring are blingy, but Smart is the arm candy and the perfect pairing.
While Lopez looks gorgeous at 43, she can skew young. She went a bit too young in this empire-waisted white mini. It's best reserved for starlets in their 20s, like, say, Mila Kunis or Blake Lively.
What's Right:
Lopez is a daring risk-taker, a leopard who changes her fashion spots repeatedly. Her animal-print, back-exposing Michael Kors gown at the 2013 Met Ball was unconventional and it highlighted her famous bootay.
At the 2013 Grammys, Lopez did her best Angelina -- showing of her shapely, golden leg in a black Anthony Vacarello gown. She revealed plenty of skin, ignoring the Grammy broadcast ban on doing so. The end result was quite Grecian Goddess.
Lopez is curvy, but she did the peplum trend right with this structured, cream-colored Lanvin mini.
Lopez paired leopard-print -- again! -- and leather via a two-piece skirt and jacket, and thigh-high boots. Rawr! It's somewhat young, but her confidence helps her pull it off. Dem boots mean bidness.
Golden goddess ahead. Lopez was gilded (and played peek-a-boo) in Zuhair Murad at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards.
She almost had a wardrobe malfunction at the 2012 Oscars in this quirky Zuhair Murad gown. It's a polarizing dress, but we love the pleating effect -- it mimics stripes.
What's Wrong:
This mosaic-like, mirrored dress was too much of a bad thing. We dunno what she was thinking with hot pink lips. And the colorblocked, chunky heels? With black tights? And a longer-than-knee length skirt? Blergh. It's all very early '00s.
Lopez's Maria Lucia Hohan dress boasted too much fabric and the peach color was a terrible pairing with her berry-stained lips.
Head-to-toe black leather made J. Lo look like a dominatrix -- and not in a good way. It's severe, and so is her eye makeup.
We love this cobalt blue Georges Chakra mini, but her hair was too big and her bodily proportion was off. She's petite in the waist, but the voluminous, '80s hair throws everything off balance. A polished coif would have this in the "What's Right" column.
How to Fix It:
Jenny From the Block in kicks? Her coordinated casual cool made her seem real. We're not suggesting she go casual all the time, but wow, was this a refreshing change of pace.
Of course she had to bling out her sneaks and wear 'em with leather pants. We never, ever see her in non-heels, but when she dares to rock sneakers, she does it with style.
La Lopez channeled Jackie O. in high-waisted slacks and a floral top with aviators. It's her version of business casual. We like seeing her classy and classic side. It's a hint of the future, and shows that she can do something other than bombshell or sex bomb.
Basic black? As if. She rocked a feathered bottom and side boob. Even in a somewhat simple black gown, Lopez oozed sex with the details. It's always the detailing with her.
