George Clooney has a stark prediction for the Republican Party once Donald Trump’s time in office comes to an end.

In a candid interview with Anderson Cooper on CNN on Wednesday (June 4), the Hollywood icon reflected on Trump’s ongoing influence and how his celebrity status helped him rise to power.

“He’s a celebrity, and he’s the president of the United States, and so he has been elected—duly elected, fair deal. I’m not complaining about that. That’s how this democracy works,” Clooney said.

"But he’s also a celebrity, and he is charming. And to the people who like him, they think he’s funny. To a great many others, they don’t," he continued.

Clooney, known for his activism, pushed back on Trump’s long-teased threats to run for a third term in 2028.

“When [Trump] is finished—and he will be finished—they’re going to have to go looking for someone who can deliver the message that he delivered with the same kind of charisma,” he said. “And they don’t have that.”

Trump hasn’t shied away from attacking the Ocean’s Eleven star in return. In a 2024 Truth Social tirade, the former president blasted Clooney, calling him a “second-rate movie star.”

“So now fake movie actor George Clooney, who never came close to making a great movie, is getting into the act. Clooney should get out of politics and go back to television. Movies never really worked for him!!!” Trump wrote.

Despite the vitriol, Clooney says he won’t be silenced. “Everybody worries about [retaliation]. But if you spend your life worrying about things, then you won’t do things,” he told Cooper.

Clooney, an Oscar winner and longtime political advocate, shares 7-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander, with his wife, renowned human rights attorney Amal Clooney.
