Best + Worst Dressed of the Week: Carey Mulligan, Claire Danes + More
Between the White House Correspondents' Dinner last weekend and the promotional blitz for 'The Great Gatsby' in full swing -- no pun intended -- there was no shortage of glam gowns draping the bodies of the stars. Thankfully, we saw more good than bad.
Carey Mulligan, always a fashion risk taker, killed it in a fiery Lanvin sheath at the NYC 'Gatsby' premiere, while Claire Danes misstepped big time in a matronly, pale blue Prada column gown -- and much more.
Best:
Carey Mulligan
The actress, who has become a bigger fashion plate by virtue of her role as Daisy in 'The Great Gatsby,' wore a simple, strapless Lanvin sheath in crimson to the film's premiere.
While the corset-like construction and bold hue popped against her apparition-toned skin, the lightest of bronzers could have warmed her skin up since she's a bit ghostly from the bust up (including her white blonde locks).
Amy Poehler
The comedienne was classy and classic in a white Basler gown with beading at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
Zoe Saldana
Bold in Balmain -- that was Zoe Saldana in her geometric, military-shaped print top and sarong-like, hot pink mini.
Katy Perry
The pop diva donned an olive green Giambatista Valli with an iridescent skirt for the White House Correspondents' Dinner. The color could have been drab, but it worked with her skin tone and glossy hair.
Isla Fisher
The 'Gatsby' actress and real-life wife of 'Borat' committed a fashion faux pas that actually ended up working for her.
Redheads normally avoid pink, but her mod, long-sleeved blush Prada didn't clash with her silky locks like it should have, and the contrast of the black accessories gave the mom-of-two's look an added edge.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus
The 'Veep' was a vision in plum at the Correspondents' Dinner. And while the strapless, figure-hugging Dolce & Gabbana was divine on her, we can't quite figure out what's going on with the underlay. It looks like her undies are showing or like she wore white Spanx. See the white peeking through? What up with dat?
Otherwise, she was chic in an atypical color.
The Worst
Florence Welch
Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine is a quirky dresser, but this navy blue, coat-mimicking Miu Miu dress channels masculine (the tie) and feminine (the slit) in a disconnected way. The fabric is also too heavy for spring.
Claire Danes
The 'Homeland' actress went full-on mother-of-the-bride in this sky blue Prada column gown at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. It was blah and aged her.
