2013 Oscars – Worst Dressed
The 2013 Oscars took place tonight (Feb. 24) in Hollywood and celebs, actors and actresses had their choice of dresses and designers. Unfortunately, some didn't choose so wisely.
Anne Hathaway, who has increased her fashion Q score in the past 12 months, decided on this slim and trim pink satin Prada gown three hours before getting dressed. Yikes. That's cutting it close. She was reportedly supposed to wear Valentino but nixed it last minute.
The petal pink hue was a plus. Sadly, the seam on the bodice didn't accent her headlights; instead, it created the illusion of perky nips. The bib-like top battled her Tiffany necklace for space and the criss-crossed back straps did the same.
Sorry, Anne. Even if you did get a golden god tonight, this wasn't your best.
Halle Berry, who is drop-dead gorgeous, looked like Las Vegas lounge singer in a sparkly striped Versace gown. She could get a role as the godmother of a 'Solid Gold' dancer in this garish gown with its severe shoulders.
Helena Bonham Carter is known for eccentric roles and style, but this sack-like black and white Vivienne Westwood frock with a bow sash and two-tone skirt would have been better suited for an ingenue. It's too young for HBC, who is approaching 50. The rat's nest hair didn't do her any favors, either.
Nicole Kidman's black and gold Balenciaga gown looked like liquid skin. Its mermaid cut was spoiled by the busy gold detailing on the train and the scales were too literal. Actually, they look like snails. So it was a marine life dress that sank. Still, her statuesque height made us envy her figure.
Renee Zellweger wore a gold Carolina Herrara gown, which shocked no one, since that's pretty much the only designer the actress ever wears. It looked cheap and washed her out, and her hair was a mess. Way to put some time into all this, Renee.
At first, Reese Witherspoon's cobalt, black-trimmed Louis Vuitton dress stood out to us, since it was bright and one of the first gowns we saw on the carpet. But after spending some time looking at it, it felt a little ill-fitting. She's done better.
Salma Hayek got choked up on the red carpet, thanks to that Mr. T-like gold choker. Her dark velvet column gown by Alexander McQueen made her look like a bejeweled dominatrix. She was top heavy -- and we don't mean her famous rack -- thanks to all that neck adornment and that towering beehive.
This style is called "baroque," but it was ... well, just broke. We know she's married to a bazillionaire and her acting days seem to be in the rear view nowadays, but we expect more from this fiery Latina when it comes to fashion.
Zoe Saldana wore a more underground designer -- Alexis Mabille Couture -- and while it was edgy, all the details ultimately overwhelmed the dress. There's a belt and a bow. There's a scalloped, tri-color hem. There's a busy bodice. It was all just too much. Even her shoes have bows.
