Halle Berry Once Had a Broken Man-Picker

As gorgeous, successful, talented and self-assured as she is, Halle Berry has not had the best luck with men. In fact, it’s taken her nearly half a century to find one who isn’t a complete tool.

And yet she still has a sense of humor about it.

Berry, 46, almost seems like a fictional construct. No matter when the paps catch her, she always looks beautiful. She gets great roles in films and works with all the best people, and she was the first black woman to ever win a Best Actress Oscar.

But even when she won a Razzie for her role in ‘Catwoman’ — admittedly, a ridiculous film — she showed up in person and accepted it gracefully by doing a spot-on rendition of the crying and thankful ingénue.

In short, Halle Berry is a star who’s earned the title.

But the one aspect of her life that we don’t envy is her love life. How did baseball’s David Justice walk away from her after four years and leave her contemplating suicide? How did this woman end up married to musician Eric Benet, who then cheated on her with just about everybody?

And why does her baby daddy, model Gabriel Aubry, feel it’s necessary to have such a contentious custody battle with a mild-mannered woman who just wants to provide a more normal life for her daughter?

How did Halle end up with these dolts?

In an interview with T Magazine, Halle — who seems to have it all figured out — said, “My picker’s broken. God just wanted to mix up my life. Maybe he was thinking, ‘This girl can’t get everything! I’m going to give her a broken picker.’”

Oh Halle, we feel you. Raise your hand if your picker hasn’t ever been broken, and we’ll call you a liar.

Fortunately, the actress says her picker is on the mend. After vowing emphatically in a 2004 interview with Oprah that she’d never get married again, our lovely Ms. Berry is currently engaged to French actor Olivier Martinez.

After so many duds, she’s probably pretty good at spotting a winner. It shouldn’t be too hard — she certainly knows what a loser looks like.
