Gwyneth Paltrow Style Breakdown – What’s Right, What’s Wrong, and How to Fix It
Gwyneth Paltrow caused a brouhaha at the 'Iron Man 3' premiere, going commando in a really ugly dress that was trying to be fashion-forward. (She even acknowledged that it was a mistake.)
PEOPLE's selection for the Most Beautiful Woman in the World is often a red carpet "do," and she does have signatures that often work for her -- but they are certainly not failproof.
She's got legs and she knows how to use 'em.
She also wears the dress, not the other way around, like this icy off-the-shoulder Ralph Lauren gown from a Tiffany gala in 2013.
What's Right:
While Gwynnie may be easy to hate for her seemingly perfect aesthetic and life, she still has the enviable ability to rock color and dangerously short hems.
This plum Victoria Beckham frock with Michael Kors heels are standout items together and apart.
She was boss in a sexy leather dress in charcoal. By Hugo Boss, of course.
When she opts for casual, she's still stylish, like in these gray skinnies, black blazer and geometric booties. She might claim to be "just like other moms," but she can't play down her chic sophistication.
Her LBDs are not just black dresses. This Michael Kors is so chic and daring, thanks to the cutouts.
Usually only a superhero can pull off a cape, but the onetime Oscar-winner was magical in this white column and cape set from Tom Ford, a designer who usually does no wrong.
Statuesque doesn't even begin to describe it.
This daringly short and satiny white cutaway Prada from the 2012 Met Gala was edgy but high fashion at once, without ever being trashy.
It's equally as stunning from the side.
What's Wrong:
The aforementioned 'Iron Man 3' atrocity by Antonio Berardi was disconnected and awful.
The sheer panels? The messy construction? The bell-bottomed sleeves? Ugh. Worst of all, she was "Look, Ma! No undies!" (Mom Blythe Danner had to be proud.)
Gwynnie loved this pink Prada with a turtleneck and huge bow at the base of her neck. We're glad someone did, since we sure didn't.
Why not try an updo when you are essentially a walking present waiting to be unwrapped?
This two-piece black Pucci, worn to the Emmys a few years ago, made her look like she had muffin top. We know the former macrobiotic dieter isn't carrying extra pounds, so the outfit was obviously all kinds of wrong.
This sequined Elie Saab looks cheap and too "Vegas Showgirl" on her.
How to Fix It:
If she keeps showing off those gams in her LBDs and quirky, colorful heels, we'll remain as down with Gwynnie as she is with Jay-Z.
When she goes casual, she is stylish but copyable, like she was in this blazer paired with leather leggings. Nothing to fix here -- just proof that it's possible to be casual and chic, all at once.
