Best + Worst Dressed of the Week: Naomi Campbell, Diane Kruger + More
Even though we're in the dog days of summer, black and charcoal gowns and frocks dominated red carpet events and movie premieres this week, as did multi-colored, floor-sweeping maxis. (Hey, at least there wasn't too much leather, the fabric du jour of summer 2013.)
Statuesque Naomi Campbell stunned in a tiered, origami-like Azzedine Alaia, while Diane Kruger faltered in a dip print Jonathan Saunders.
The Best:
Naomi Campbell
We can almost forget that the temperamental model throws bedazzled cell phones at assistants when looking at her work-of-art Azzedine Alaia gown, with its delicate, tiered, origami-like construction. Yes, this is the dress of a tall girl and her posture mimicked that of a skyscraper. Just breathtaking.
Kate Hudson
The actress' charcoal Elie Saab gown was long and short, with a bejeweled bodice. The loose, flowy construction of the dress made it look like she was floating. It felt summery, too.
Salma Hayek
The Latina actress donned a black Saint Laurent frock with super subtle detailing, such as the blingy straps and the peek-a-boo belly. Hayek was divine ... like a goddess.
The Worst:
Diane Kruger
The fashion-forward actress faltered a bit in her black and green Jonathan Saunders maxi-like dress, which hung on her body like a sack. Maxi styles are so summer appropriate, but the color bleeding here didn't work for her. This is more of a gown than a maxi, but it has similar qualities to the summer essential.
In essence, the Krug was too casual.
Emmy Rossum
The 'Shameless' cutie had some fashion hits this spring, but her Carolina Herrera maxi gown -- as opposed to a regular ol' beach maxi -- is overdone. There are too many details, all of which competed with each other. Like what do you look at first? If there were fewer colors or adornments, we'd like this.
