Trend Watch: Rihanna, Beyonce + More Vamp It Up With Berry Lips
A berry lip can be one of two things: Goth, or vampy and vixenish. While the bordeaux stained lip is usually reserved for fall, celebs are breaking the rules and painting their lips in rich wine-inspired matte hues this spring and summer, too.
The best thing about the look? As demonstrated by pop divas Rihanna and Beyonce, you can paint your pout and leave the rest of your face minimally made up, allowing skin to breathe in summer.
Rihanna's rich, mixed berry lip matched her outfit and golden locks.
Meanwhile, Queen Bey wore a softer, pinky-purple shade, which contrasted beautifully with her blonde strands. Doesn't her shade mimic velvet on her kisser? Mwah!
Actress Rooney Mara has porcelain skin, so she can has to be careful with a deep, dark lip. She chose a berry shade with more reddish tones.
Minka Kelly's braided, milkmaid updo was romantic, as was her berry-slicked pucker.
Katy Perry was Katy Berry with her deep, rich wine-lipped look. This look requires flawless application with a lip liner. You can't just swipe and go.
Nicole Richie, a fashion trendsetter of the highest order, wore white-washed locks and matte mixed berry lips and was an exercise in extremes. Berry lips require touch ups and repeat application; as you can see from Nic's pose at the Met Gala, her stain was starting to wear off at the center.
So always tuck your lip product in your clutch or bag, no matter how tiny. Re-apply as needed to keep this distinct look intact.
