Leah Remini Left Scientology Because They Ask Way Too Many Questions
'King of Queens' actress Leah Remini is bouncing from the controversial Church of Scientology.
The New York Post reports that Remini is sick of the "nonstop interrogations" and "thought modification" (read: brainwashing) of the religion, as well as the group's practice of excommunicating former members and non-Scientologist family members of its practitioners.
"It all began when Leah questioned the validity of excommunication of people," a source said. "She is stepping back from a regime she thinks is corrupt. She thinks no religion should tear apart a family or abuse someone under the umbrella of 'religion.'"
Remini's friends within the church reportedly "wrote internal reports" about the actress that caused an investigation on her family." These were friends Remini had for about 30 years. 30 years.
A source close to the star said that she may go public "when she sees what the church tries to do. She has heard they use people to scare you into silence." (Hello, Nicole Kidman!)
Still, Remini isn't too worried.
The source explained, "She's from Brooklyn. The church can't hurt her ... they don’t have her family, that's all that matters to her. It's not about wanting or not wanting to do Scientology ... The issue is that [Miscavige] is taking down this church and hurting people and families."
UPDATE: The Church of Scientology emailed us with this official statement: "The Church respects the privacy of parishioners and has no further comment."
