Chris Wallace 'Liberated' by CNN Exit — What's Next for TV Icon?

Chris Wallace is saying goodbye to CNN!

On Monday (Nov. 11), the news veteran told the Daily Beast that he will depart the cable giant at the end of the year.

He doesn't plan on retiring though. Wallace has major plans for his future, telling the outlet that he is heading to "where the action seems to be" — streaming and podcasting.

"This is the first time in 55 years I’ve been between jobs. I am actually excited and liberated by that," Wallace said, pointing out the success of Joe Rogan during the recent presidential election.

"I don’t flatter myself to think I will have that sort of reach,” the TV legend explained, noting that he is open to a new challenge, and is seeing which avenue would work best for him.

"Not knowing is part of the challenge. I’m waiting to see what comes over the transom. It might be something that I haven’t thought of at all," he detailed.

The 77-year-old is exiting CNN when his three-year contract expires.

CNN, who reportedly paid Wallace very well, wanted him to stay with the network.

"I have nothing but positive things to say. CNN has been very good to me," Wallace gushed.

CNN CEO Mark Thompson praised Wallace as "one of the most respected political journalists in the news business."

"We want to thank him for the dedication and wisdom he’s brought to all his work at CNN and to wish him the very best for the future," Thompson told the outlet.

The father-of-one began his career in 1973 as a local broadcaster in Chicago. Wallace did stints at ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox News, before landing at CNN.
