Best + Worst Dressed of the Week: Jennifer Garner + Jennifer Lawrence Rock Winter Whites, Sarah Jessica Parker Blunders in Pink
It's both awards season and New York Fashion Week, so there were plenty of celebs out and about in high fashion, couture ensembles this week. There were also some blunders.
Winter white was one of the most popular colors, with Jennifer Garner donning a simple but stunning cocktail dress while making awards event rounds with hubby Ben Affleck. Then there was Sarah Jessica Parker's questionable pink frock - let's be honest, it was a muumuu - by blazing-hot designer Maison Martin Margiela that disappointed mightily.
Here's our round-up of some of the best and worst fashion of the week.
The Best
Hot mama Garner showed off her arms and legs in this darling Antonio Berardi cocktail dress that she paired with champagne-colored heels. The skirt was plain, but the beaded detail on the bodice made this a standout.
Jennifer Lawrence stunned at the Oscar luncheon in her white Chloe frock from the line's S/S 2013 line. It's fresh, youthful and sweet, and our favorite tough girl was extra glam with nude lips. We also love that she chose to pair this snow-colored sheath with black heels. The contrast was pretty.
Another tough girl showed off her glam and girly in wintry white: Rooney Mara. 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' actress attended a 'Side Effects' premiere in a lacy and intricately detailed Alexander McQueen dress. It had long sleeves, so it was winter apropos, and the scalloped hem and nude heels added extra flair. Her hair is a little severe, with the center part and bun, but other than that, she's aces all around.
Julianne Hough's gown for the 'Safe Haven' premiere was more champagne than white, but it still fit the winter white family. The lacy, back-baring, iridescent Alberta Ferretti gown appeared to be custom cut for her body. She was elegant and glam.
The Worst
Sarah Jessica Parker may be beloved by the fashion world, but the actress blundered mightily in this Maison Martin Margiela dress that looks hot pink in some lighting and red in others. It's just a bunch of fabric tossed on her tiny frame, overpowering her. We don't know what that black and white "element" is, either. Scarf? Shawl? Surplus fabric? Whatever it is, it doesn't flatter.
First off, we adore Ashlee Simpson's black leather pencil skirt by ASOS. It's easily one of the best bottoms we saw all week. However, she'd have been on the "Best" list had she paired it with a better top. The styling is in error -- this loose, cat-faced tee is sloppy, baggy and too teenager. If she'd chosen a fitted, structured button-down, she'd have achieved that sexy librarian thing that would have elevated this look to a winner.
The eternally put upon Lindsay Lohan attended the amfAR event at Fashion Week, as opposed to using her time wisely to, you know, find a job. She wore a golden Theia gown which was actually pretty until she threw a white fur over it. We know, it's cold in NYC -- but it's Lohan who takes this whole look down a notch thanks to her haggard appearance. Hard to believe she's only 26.
Ashley Tisdale is young (and looks her age) so she can get away with a two-piece ensemble like this slightly midriff-baring dress by The Hellers, which she wore to the 'Safe Haven' premiere. It's certainly trying to be fashion-forward, but it's sorta "meh." We think it's the fact that top is summery while the bottom is red carpet. It just doesn't work.
