Adam Lambert is once again making his birthday a happy one -- not just for himself, either. The 'American Idol' alum is encouraging his super-loyal fans to donate $31 each to charity in honor of his big 3-1.

Lambert's cause of choice is the We Are Family Foundation. No, that's not a reference to 'The Birdcage,' either. The charity is a nonprofit that promotes cultural diversity, tolerance and peace worldwide.

Those who donate $31 or more can upload a video message for the 'Trespassing' singer, but those with less change to spare aren't left out, either. Any donation of $1 or more will let donors sign the Glambert's birthday card.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, donations surpassed $16,000 as of late Sunday night (Jan. 27). Lambert will celebrate his birthday and his charitable work further on Thursday (Jan. 31) at the We Are Family 2012 Celebration Gala, where he'll be honored with the Unity Award.

Not bad for a talent show runner-up (who, as everyone knows, really should have won).

It's not the first time Adam has used his birthday powers for good and not evil -- on his 29th birthday, he asked fans to donate to the charity: water project, and while his goal was only $29,000, his devotees pitched in $60,000 in just two days. And by the three-month mark, some $325,000 had been raised.

If you want to wish Lambert a happy birthday this year and aren't nearby or fit enough to offer him a lap dance, you can donate to the We Are Family Foundation via its website.
