Whiskey distiller Jack Daniel, the man who makes your working lunches bearable and your Coca-Cola taste good, was as tough as could be. He started running whiskey at just 13, going on to create the Old No. 7 brand we all love today.

And if you go to the Jack Daniel’s distillery in Lynchburg, Tenn., you can see his killer on display — because gentleman Jack died from wounds inflicted by a safe.

Daniel, frustrated that he couldn't remember its combination, gave the squat beast a kick one day and broke his toe in the process. A short time later, he died from blood poisoning caused by the injury.
