It looks like the cast for the upcoming Street Fighter movie is continuing to take shape, and another big name from the world of professional wrestling is in the mix. I'm hearing that "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes is in talks to play the iconic role of Guile.

This news was first broken by Nexus Point News, who have been on top of the casting news for this film.

This comes after I previously reported that Roman Reigns is set to portray the formidable Akuma in the movie. With two of the biggest names in wrestling attached, it seems like this film is aiming to pack a serious punch.

Plot details for the new Street Fighter are being kept tightly under wraps, but Nexus Point News has provided a list of the confirmed cast members so far:

  • Noah Centineo as Ken
  • Andrew Koji as Ryu
  • Jason Momoa as Blanka
  • Roman Reigns as Akuma
  • 50 Cent as Balrog
  • Callina Liang as Chun-Li
  • Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki
  • Orville Peck as Vega
  • David Dastmalchian as M. Bison

This is a pretty interesting and eclectic cast, and it'll be exciting to see how they all come together on screen.

Of course, this isn't the first time Street Fighter has made its way to the big screen. The original 1994 film, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Colonel Guile, is a memorable piece of '90s cinema, to say the least. While it was a commercial success, grossing nearly $100 million on a $35 million budget, the movie was not well-received by critics. It was often described as "campy" and "unfaithful" to the source material. However, over the years, it has gained a cult following. Many fans have come to appreciate its over-the-top performances, especially the final performance of the late Raul Julia as M. Bison, which earned him a posthumous Saturn Award nomination. The film's cheesy charm and nostalgic value have made it a beloved, if flawed, classic for a generation of fans.

10 Wrestlers Who Landed Roles in Superhero Movies

Who on earth didn't mark out when Macho Man Randy Savage suddenly appeared as the badass 'Bonesaw' in Spiderman? "Bonesaw is ready!!!"

Superhero movies were practically built for wrestling's most legendary performers. It's true that Hulk Hogan was unable to translate his explosive in-ring success into box office gold, but performers like Jesse Ventura and Rowdy Roddy Piper did prove that wrestlers could carry major roles in action films like Predator and They Live!

At the turn of the millennium, as the Marvel and DC Universes birthed some of the most profitable film franchises of all time, wrestlers like Dave Bautista and The Rock would nab starring roles as some of cinema's most powerful heroes. In turn, long forgotten pro wrestlers would experience career rejuvenations thanks to their god-given size and ability to connect with an audience.

Whether it be 'Drax' in the multi-billion dollar franchise Guardians of the Galaxy or 'Claw' in a Hong Kong superhero sequel you've probably never heard of, we're still popping whenever a WWE favorite makes an appearance on the silver screen.
