Tabloid Being Sued by Tom Cruise Wants Intel About His Daughter’s ‘Mental State’

When the gossip magazine Life & Style claimed Tom Cruise had abandoned his daughter Suri following his divorce from Katie Holmes, Tom lawyered up like Tom does and fired back a $50 million lawsuit for libel, defamation of character and invasion of privacy because he clearly doesn’t know how magazines sold at supermarket checkout lines work.

In response, Life & Style’s parent company, the Bauer Media Group, has begun an investigation to prove that Cruise did in fact abandon Suri and it negatively affected her mental health. In essence, proving that his accusation of libel is unfounded by being right all along.

On Thursday (Feb. 14), both parties laid out what they’d be seeking in the discovery phases of their cases.

Bauer Media wants to know how often Cruise was in contact with his daughter, his visitation schedule, the terms of his divorce, how Scientology affected his visitation, Suri’s mental state, and Tom’s “litigation history” since Tom’s lawyer Bert Fields said the actor doesn’t just sue people for funzies. This from a guy who filed suit over a non-existent gay sex tape.

Cruise’s team also wants some information, including the magazine’s sources; how they get information, pay sources and verify credibility of these sources; their “practice of publishing stories about Cruise” and their “history of bigotry and hatred toward minority religious groups and their members.” (Seems Bauer may or may not be in the business of peddling neo-Nazi publications.)

The publication company will most likely be able to protect their sources and the whole case will probably be settled out of court. But if it isn’t, we hope it takes place in the high court of Scientology, with the honorable Judge L. Ron Hubbard’s reincarnated corpse presiding.
