Britney Spears had a song a while ago called 'Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know.' Unfortunately in the case of her split with Jason Trawick, she was, in fact, the last to hear about it ... and it may still have not sunken in just yet.

Radar Online reports that Trawick actually worked out the details of the breakup with Spears' father, Jamie, who serves as her conservator.

“It really wasn't Britney’s decision to announce the split last week, it was Jamie who made the call,” a source said.

It's actually a pretty tragic situation -- apparently Spears needed something softer than kid gloves for this, and it's not clear to her what's up.

“Jason wanted out, and in the fragile state that Britney is in, it’s not like he could have a rational conversation with her about it, so it was really between him and Jamie. They decided how the relationship needed to end and how to go about the technicalities, such as removing Jason from the conservatorship, when he would move out and how to announce the split," the source added.

"Britney was left out of everything and really didn't even know what was going on.”

When Jamie and Jason broke the news to Brit, apparently it was "in a controlled and safe environment" in case she couldn't handle it.

“Jason and Jamie wanted to make sure that Britney didn't lose it, so they had to water things down for her a bit,” the source revealed. “She knows that the engagement is off and that Jason has been removed from the conservatorship, but she still hasn't exactly grasped yet that the relationship is totally over.”

As if breakups weren't hard enough to deal with, this is one in which everyone was in on it before Britney was. "Adding insult to injury" doesn't seem to cut it, but apparently the two guys knew what they were doing. It's just depressing that they had to do it. Considering the payday Jason was up for for this babysitting gig, it had to be really bad.
