Even though MTV only plays music videos for about an hour a day, they still like celebrating those who put the M -- which at one point stood for "music" in MTV.

As such, the 2013 MTV Video Music Award nominations were released today, and they're pretty much exactly what you expect ... except for one thing.

Justin Timberlake, Pink and Macklemore lead the pack in terms of number of nods, which, considering the tremendous success of each of these artists this year, comes as little to no surprise.

What is somewhat shocking is that Justin Bieber was shut out of almost every category, save for Best Choreography -- and that was for his feature in a will.i.am video, '#thatPOWER.' Ouch.

Other nods include perpetual prom queen Taylor Swift, the adorably diminutive Bruno Mars, the inexplicably nouveau-urban Miley Cyrus, the ever-present Rihanna and Queen Bey Beyonce -- and Bieber's on-again, off-again love Selena Gomez for her culturally appropriating, vocally flat hit 'Come & Get It.'

Essentially, if you got sick of a song at any point in the last 12 months, it got a nod. See the full list of nominees below.
