10 Facts You Might Not Know About Marvel’s ‘The Punisher’
Chris Evans has the distinction of playing two very different characters in the Marvel universe. He was both The Human Torch in Fantastic Four and its sequel Rise of the Silver Surfer, and now plays Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But he’s not the only actor to double up Marvel roles. Ray Stevenson starred as The Punisher in Punisher: War Zone and later would play Volstagg in Thor and Thor: The Dark World. There have been a number of Punisher movies over the years, perhaps none as notorious as the 1989 version starring Dolph Lundgren as Frank Castle. It wasn’t much of a Punisher movie (they weren’t even allowed to use his iconic skull t-shirt), but was a success around the world…except for the United States where it never received a theatrical release after the studio went bankrupt.
