'Law & Order' star Dennis Farina has passed away at 69 years old.

TMZ reports that Farina died from a blood clot in his lung.

Farina was a Hollywood staple, appearing in a slew of classic TV shows and movies including 'Get Shorty,' 'Snatch' and the HBO series 'Luck.' Prior to acting, Farina served as a police officer in Chicago from 1967 to 1985.

The actor is survived by his three adult children from his ex wife, Patricia Farina, as well as his two granddaughters and four grandsons. He also left behind "the love of his life," Marianne Cahill, with whom he was in a long term relationship for 35 years but never married.

Our thoughts are with Farina's loved ones at this time.
