Reese Witherspoon continues to take heat for playing the celebrity card when her husband, Jim Toth, was arrested for a DUI last week. This time? The flack came from David Spade.

And while you may not like him, you can't argue with his logic here.

A TMZ photog asked the 'Rules of Engagement' star for his thoughts on the brouhaha, and after making a Reese's Pieces joke (and confessing it's "the worst one yet"), Spade said it's always wise for celebs to assume people don't know who they are.

"I think the general rule is when you say 'Do you know who I am?' the answer is most likely 'No,'" he told the pap. "If you have to explain to someone you're famous, then you're technically not that famous."

Ouch.

Of course Reese is famous, and she's apparently also nervous about saying something else regretful in public. According to the Washington Post, she was scheduled to appear on 'Late Night' with Jimmy Fallon and film a segment for 'Good Morning America' this week to promote her new film 'Mud' -- but has pulled the plug on both.

She also nixed a 'Mud' press junket on Monday (April 22).

Considering how personable and funny she normally is, we don't think this is the best move. Singing a song with Jimmy Fallon usually melts icy hearts, and a big dose of self-deprecation would go a long way for her image right now.

If Hugh Grant could go on Leno right after he was caught getting a blowie from a streetwalker and come out smelling like an English Rose, we're pretty sure Reese can charm her way out of this. After all, being adorable is half her job description.
