Even as we teased our bangs and permed our tresses, we sometimes looked at the gorgeous flowing mane on country star Crystal Gayle and thought we too could look angelic and ethereal with such long, luscious hair.

We first became acquainted with Gayle's ankle-grazing locks when she had a crossover hit with 1977's 'Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue' -- but she racked up nearly a dozen No. 1 country hits throughout the '80s, and never cut off an inch of that hair.

Jealous as we were, we didn't have the patience to grow ours that long, let alone comb it out every day.

So it was back to Aqua Net'ing those bangs.
