10 Celeb Couples We (Almost) Forgot Dated
Love may be a many splendored thing, but when it comes to former celebrity couples, it may also be a little-known thing. Maybe it’s because the relationship didn’t last long, maybe it’s because the hookup happened before they were famous, or maybe it’s just because they never talk about it — but regardless, here are some past pairings that might surprise you.
Matthew Morrison + Kristen Bell
The ‘Glee’ star and Veronica Mars herself “dated very briefly” during their college days together at New York University, and they’ve clearly stayed friends. She calls him “Matty” and the photo below (which includes Bell’s fiance Dax Shepard) was taken at a UNICEF ball just two years ago.
Jake Gyllenhaal + Natalie Portman
Jake and Natalie tried to make things work not once, but twice — first in 2006, and again in 2008 (right before they shared the screen in ‘Brothers’). But despite two breakups, there’s no bitterness. In fact, when he presented her with an award in January 2011, he used words like “elegant,” “talented,” “funny” and “smart” to describe her, and then got a laugh from the crowd when he added, “[But] she’s a vegan, which makes it really frustrating when you’re picking a place to eat.”
Brad Pitt + Robin Givens
Robin’s ex-husband Mike Tyson says when he and Robin were breaking up in 1989, she dated a pre-fame Brad — who was so pretty that even the legendary boxer was intimidated. “It just totally overwhelmed me,” he once said about seeing them together. “I had no energy to fight.”
Ashton Kutcher + January Jones
Long before he was on ‘Two and a Half Men’ or she was on ‘Mad Men’ (if they’d collaborated, it might have looked something like this), Kutcher and Jones dated. “He was like, I don’t think you’re going to be good at [acting]. So f— you!” she recalled a decade later. “[But] he only has nice things to say now. If anything, I should thank him. Because the minute you tell me I can’t do something, that’s when I’m most motivated.”
Conan O’Brien + Lisa Kudrow
The ginger late-night host and the comedically-gifted actress went out on a few dates when they were both getting their careers started, and while she says he was “really smart, really funny, and he thought I was funny … [we] found we were better as friends.” And yes, they’re still pals.
Enrique Iglesias + Sofia Vergara
It may be hard to imagine now, but back in 2003 — six years before she found fame in the US on ‘Modern Family’ — Colombian-born Sofia was known to most American audiences only as “Enrique’s ex.” But there was no question she already had star power — because even back then, one of her co-stars on Spanish-language network Univision described her as “a goddess.”
Owen Wilson + Sheryl Crow
Crow is seven years older than the crooked-nosed actor, but that didn’t stop them from having a long-term relationship. Their three-year romance ended in 2002, after which she described him as “talented and a great, great person,” and he blamed himself for the split, saying, “I was lucky enough to find a great girl, and because of my lack of … focus, the relationship went south.”
Ryan Gosling + Sandra Bullock
America’s Sweetheart and everyone’s fantasy boyfriend dated from 2002 to 2003, and she clearly left quite an impression on him. Nearly a decade later, he paid tribute to her and another past love, Rachel McAdams, by saying in an interview, “I had two of the greatest girlfriends of all time. I haven’t met anybody who could top them.”
Matthew Broderick + Helen Hunt
It’s been more than 25 years since Matthew and Helen dated, but they’re so comfortable in the friendship born from the relationship that she cast him in her 2007 directorial debut, ‘Then She Found Me,’ and they even filmed a couple of sex scenes together for the movie.
Seal + Tyra Banks
You probably know Seal was married to leggy Heidi Klum for seven years (they split in 2012), but you probably don’t know that it wasn’t his first relationship with a supermodel. Way back in 1996, the pop star and Tyra Banks went to the Essence Awards together, but the relationship didn’t last — they broke up a few months later.
