Usually, celebrities covet a chance to appear on the ‘Late Show with David Letterman.’ It’s a great opportunity to promote their work, the host is pleasant (usually), and if it’s anything like what we’ve seen in the last few years, they’ll get to spend most of the time talking about their kids.

So why did a couple of goons have to drag Bill Murray kicking and screaming to the studio for his appearance?

On Thursday night's show, as Letterman introduced the legendary 'SNL' alum as his next guest, we saw a shot from outside the studio of Murray arriving in a black SUV. Except he didn’t get out of the passenger side of the vehicle.

A pair of dark-suited dudes muscled him from the rear hatchback in handcuffs and a black hood, as though he'd been kidnapped. His escorts then dragged him to the studio and un-hooded him – at which point he was shocked to see they were Americans – and then tazed him a time or two for good measure to get him to crawl into the building.

A dazed Murray ended up on the floor of the ‘Letterman’ set and needed some time to recover from the shock.

His first audible words after the frightening ordeal: “It’s nice to be back.”

They say comedy is painful -- and Murray proves the point. And if we were the betting type, we’d put money on the whole thing being his hilarious and brilliant idea.
