If you're not tired of this already, the Beyonce-gate lip-sync controversy continues.

Did she or didn't she use a pre-recorded track during her inauguration performance of 'The Star-Spangled Banner'? Does it detract from her nonetheless amazing (and un-doctored) performance? And how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?

Bey can't answer that last one, but she does have some thoughts on the rest.

As a source close to the ruler of the music world told Us Weekly, "She didn't think there was anything wrong with it. Pavarotti has done it! It was freezing out, and if she messed up just one note, that would have been the story.”

An astute observation. Unfortunately for Beyonce, if she'd screwed up a treasured and tricky song like the national anthem, she would have been skewered a la Christina Aguilera for it. Instead, she chose to use a pre-recorded tape -- and now she's being raked over the coals for it.

"Everybody uses these tracks, and the music director advised it. Any big outdoor live performance is almost always with some kind of track," the source explained, adding, “She did sing, but used a track."

As 2009 inauguration singer, fabulous hat-wearer and queen of soul Aretha Franklin explained to ABC, “The weather down there was about 46 or 44 degrees and for most singers that is just not good singing weather."

Several media outlets have also pointed out that the gold standard of national anthem performances -- Whitney Houston's version at the 1991 Super Bowl -- wasn't performed live either, but it's still one of the most memorable moments in modern musical history.

Given all this, Beyonce is said to be disappointed with the whole kerfuffle and considers the fiasco "a technicality [that] took away from the beauty of the moment."

Anyone who reads StarCrush with any regularity knows we're hardly celebrity apologists, but this whole bruhaha just smacks of pique. Bey is rich and beautiful and -- yes -- talented, and she makes few missteps either personally or professionally. So when there was a chance to knock her down a few pegs, a lot of people jumped at the opportunity to do so.

Enough already, eh?

Beyonce's camp has remained mum on the whole matter and will most likely continue to do so until this whole mess dies down. Or until everyone picks apart her upcoming Super Bowl performance. Whichever comes first.
