Anderson Cooper + Kathy Griffin May Get Their Own Show. Pardon Us Whilst We Squee.
Huzzah! Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin, who host the best New Year’s Eve show ever, shot a pilot together for CNN on Monday, March 25 — indicating the network may pick them up for a regular series.
Deadline Hollywood reports that the pilot was filmed in front of a live studio audience in New York and that network prez Jeff Zucker was in attendance. So you know it’s gotta be big.
The world first came to know and love the duo’s onscreen antics during CNN’s annual New Year’s Eve coverage, where their sometimes racy banter has been lifting ratings — and eyebrows — since 2009 thanks to stunts like that time Kathy tried to kiss Coop’s “Christmas presents” and made him giggle like a schoolgirl.
The close friends tend to stay busy the rest of the year, too. In addition to his nightly news program ‘AC360,’ Cooper also hosted the sadly canceled ‘Anderson Live’ daytime program, while Griffin helms a weekly talk show on Bravo.
On top of the potential show with Kathy, our favorite silver fox has a lot of other options on his plate — he was recently approached about taking over Matt Lauer’s spot on ‘Today,’ and he’s been queried about whether he’d like to host ‘Jeopardy’ once Alex Trebek steps aside.
But screw all that. This Griffin/Cooper show has to happen. It’s an unbeatable combination. Really, the only way it could be better is if they take a page from ‘Today’ and allow copious wine consumption.
