Listen, we think Dakota Johnson is great for Anastasia Steele in the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' movie. But not everyone agrees!

It seems like everyone in young Hollywood has been attached to the role of the naive, virginal coed who gets swept up in an S&M relationship with a 27-year-old billionaire. There have been various levels of truth to any of the casting rumors that happened before Dakota was officially picked, but we rounded up the most persistent -- and most wanted -- actresses for Ana.

  • Amanda Seyfried

After Amanda Seyfried's star turns in 'Chloe' and 'Lovelace,' it's pretty clear she can nail the sexpot thing beautifully -- and she's got the dramatic chops to convey the somewhat victimized role of Anastasia Steele in 'Fifty Shades of Grey' perfectly.

  • Nina Dobrev

Lots of fans wanted Nina Dobrev to star alongside her real-life ex an onscreen lover Ian Somerhalder in 'Fifty Shades of Grey.'

However, Dobrev herself wasn't too keen on the idea, especially if it involved Somerhalder.

"I don't know if that's a good idea," Dobrev said of costarring with her then-boyfriend. "I think it's best for any of the actors on the 'Vampire Diaries' to kind of do their own things . . .and create new characters," she said. "And as much as you try when you shoot a movie, if it's two of the same people, the fans will always see you as . . .they'll see me as Elena and they'll see him as Damon if we do a film together. I think it would be better [if] either he should get it or I should get it."

Unfortunately, neither of them got it. Better luck next time!

  • Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis was rumored to be in talks for Anastasia Steele, but she insists those whispers were completely unfounded.

"Gosh, this 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' thing is just not gonna leave is it?" she ranted. "No, you will not see me in 'Fifty Shades of Grey.' I'm so sorry."

  • Emma Watson

Emma Watson is delicate, refined and classy -- which is why it would be so mindblowing to see her as Anastasia Steele. (Plus, can you imagine the combination of Twihards and Potterheads clamoring over this?!) However, the beautiful Brit burned the movie badly.

The 'Perks of Being a Wallflower' starlet tweeted,  "Who here actually thinks I would do '50 Shades of Grey' as a movie? Like really. For real. In real life."

  • Dakota Fanning

Dakota Fanning seems sweet and innocent, and maybe she is. But she can still play sexy and sultry (remember her as Cherie Currie in 'The Runaways'?) as well as disturbing (remember 'Hounddog'?). Plus she has a hot older boyfriend, so some method acting may work, too.

That's all aside from the fact that Hollywood loves stunt castings, and considering how protective the world is of Fanning, you can bet tongues would've wagged over this.

  • Lily Collins

Fresh-faced and lovely Lily Collins was a fan favorite for the role of Anastasia Steele, though it's unclear if she was ever actually in talks for the role. She starred in another book-to-film adaptation, 'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones,' but unfortunately, it was a box office bomb -- and the subsequent sequels have halted production as a result.

  • Kristen Stewart

Considering 'Fifty Shades of Grey' was based on 'Twilight' fan fiction, it's only natural that Kristen Stewart be considered for Anastasia Steele ... even more so when you remember that Robert Pattinson was E.L. James' first choice for Christian Grey! But considering K-Stew and R-Pattz's checkered recent history, it's not surprising that they'd shy away from co-starring in something so steamy.

  • Lucy Hale

Lucy Hale was all about the possibility of being Anastasia Steele in 'Fifty Shades of Grey' because she was such a huge fan of the books.

"I just finished the first book. I'm speechless," Hale told Celebuzz at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. "I think every girl on the carpet wants to play [Anastasia Steele]. That would be freaking awesome. I'm really curious to see how they're going to turn it into a film."

Alas, Hale didn't nab the role -- but based on how much she loved the series, we bet she'll hit up the premiere screening!

  • Ashley Benson

Ashley Benson was eager to compete against her 'Pretty Little Liars' co-star Lucy Hale for the role of Anastasia Steele in 'Fifty Shades of Grey.'

"I've read every book. I want to play Anastasia," Benson gushed to Celebuzz. "I love her so much!"

At least there won't be any on-set drama on 'PLL' over the casting!

  • Alexis Bledel

'Gilmore Girls' star Alexis Bledel was a fan favorite for Ana in 'Fifty Shades of Grey.' She has the pretty, fresh face, the preternatural youth and, to quote Steele herself, "Jeez!" -- those eyes!

Fans wanted Bledel so badly that they actually petitioned to have Dakota Johnson let go and have Anastasia recast.

"I don't know where it came from," Bledel said of the Anastasia rumors. "All I know about are some fan-made trailers on the internet I've seen, but that's the only thing I've heard."

As for those trailers? Bledel said she was both "flattered and freaked out" by them. "People definitely do have strong opinions about it. I guess when people really identify with a concept, they feel strongly about it."
