Amanda Bynes clearly still has the sense of humor that launched her into child stardom. Case in point? The excuse she gave to a judge this morning (May 24) following her arrest last night.

For the uninitiated, Bynes was pinched Thursday night on charges of marijuana possession, reckless endangerment and felony evidence tampering. The latter two charges stemmed from her hurling a bong out of the window of her New York City high-rise apartment when cops came in to check on her "disorderly" behavior.

Bynes now insists that a different kind of bud was in the bong -- because she swore to a judge at a hearing Friday morning that it wasn't a bong at all, but actually just a vase.

Which begs the question: Who puts weed in a vase? And if there was no contraband within it, what would prompt her to toss a vase out a window?

Prosecutors weren't buying the clear BS and requested that she be held on $1,000 bail -- which, according to Bynes, she and her Olsen Twin fortune could easily afford anyway. However, the judge let her off without bail, but warned that if she misses her scheduled court date in July that a warrant will go out for her arrest.

Her probation looks about as promising as her future as a hair model.
